What do you need to succeed? I think in the last post, I mentioned the value of believing that you deserve what it is you desire and eventually turning that belief, into an understanding that you DESERVE what you desire.
Today I was struggling with that concept, and this was in the form of not being able to execute tasks necessary to the success of my start-up. I think there’s a certain amount of disbelief in myself, that I can succeed. As a preface, I am currently unemployed, starting a start-up, and learning how to program while also navigating the legal system with growing lawyer fees. As you can understand, this has an effect on my quality of life; mainly in that I am surviving off of savings, with no real income. I have been independent of my family for quite some time, and do not rely on them for monetary or morale support.
I’m continuing to practice BJJ and Muay Thai four times a week, go to the gym approximately twice, while dedicating ~15 hours to learning programming. But there’s no money. There is no money. No security. No real tangible achievements.
Well, this is a momentary mojo issue. It mainly plagued my morning and there’s a certain understanding, that loss of mojo will naturally subside but…
So how do I get my MOJO back!?
To succeed you need to have the right amount of DRIVE, and the right amount of DISCIPLINE.
Why these two?
First of all, I characterize “drive” as being more of an intrinsic property. However some of us aren’t always blessed with an all-consuming hyper-focused fixation on a sole activity that will get us to our dreams.
We see videos of our favorite athletes, our favorite entrepreneurs, and our other idols, and they speak about drive. About passion. How it was a natural decision for them to succeed. Not saying that this is untrue, but I think we miss out on their fierce qualities of discipline. I really don’t think that it’s understood, the level of excellence others have to execute at in order to make their dreams reality.
This is where discipline comes in.
What happens when Conor McGregor doesn’t want to go to the gym? What happened when Elon Musk had nearly lost all of his money and his companies were going to fail. Do you think they gave up?
They didn’t sit down and think, “Oh, well I guess that’s that!” and put on a goofy face and pat their hands, “Time to get going!”
I see so many people, it plagues our society, thinking that what they see on Instagram, or at the gym is an easy thing to do.
You see people rationalize why they’re not succeeding which gives them an escape to why they’re not succeeding. Not only does this suck for yourself! It ultimately besmirches and diminishes the value of the work other’s had to go through to achieve their dreams!
Don’t do that! Believe in yourself, and also keep yourself accountable. Every night’s not the best night to solve the world’s problems.
So as for my mojo… This means I should keep on trekking. Hopefully I’ve got the right combination of both drive and discipline to get somewhere, someday 😉
Side note. This also ties in with people who don’t understand type 2 fun. That can be talked about… later
Thoughts of a ho… Now you know.
