How to Achieve- With UFC’s Nick Ring

Words of Surety.

I had the chance to meet UFC fighter Nick Ring (again) yesterday at the Brian’s birthday (Brian is the owner of Champion’s Creed). It was pretty neat. We got in to a good conversation about martial arts, and what it takes to be successful within this field; this later detracted to a larger conversation about how to be successful in life. Whether you know it or not, Nick has a pretty awesome mindset, and is definitely a philosophical fellow.

This was the biggest take away. When Nick conveyed this message, he did so in a very deliberate manner, slow with his words and his eyes, making sure that I understood every word coming out of his mouth.
You need to believe that you deserve it… (Pause) When you know you deserve it, you then have to take it.
So what does this whole thing mean? The idea to take it, is to seize the opportunity. If I believe I have the ability to be one of the top fighters in Calgary, or the a top 40 under 40, I have to:

Believe that, “you know what, I sure as hell as anyone could be that person”. And really believe that idea.
Seize the opportunity. This means standing up to the challenge. Ensuring that you understand that this goal is attainable and that it will be made through these steps.

I really appreciated the genuine pieces of advice which came from Nick. I was probably way too drunk, but he was empathetic, and understood the desire to do better and the desire to do well. Not to mention that he outlined the caliber of our trainers at Champion’s Creed, along with the caliber of the students training here.

Got to congratulate Mike Smallwood on winning the title fight in some American circuit. Had no idea.
Also, really neat to talk to Mike Bagshot about how he got so good training 6ish hours a day of Jiu Jitsu. Hardcore.

Thoughts of a ho… Now you know…
